What is Sculptra?
Sculptra® Aesthetic is an FDA-approved injectable treatment made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible substance used for decades in dissolvable sutures. Unlike traditional fillers that provide immediate volume, Sculptra works gradually by stimulating your body’s natural collagen and elastin production—helping to restore volume, improve skin texture, and enhance elasticity over time.
Sculptra is designed to treat a wide range of concerns related to aging and volume loss. It helps improve overall skin tone and elasticity while addressing specific areas such as hollow temples, sunken cheeks, and a weak jawline. It’s also effective for enhancing a receding chin and softening deep facial wrinkles like smile lines (nasolabial folds), marionette lines (downturned smile), and vertical lines across the cheeks known as accordion lines. Beyond the face, Sculptra can rejuvenate crepey, loose skin on the neck and décolletage, and is even used to restore volume to the buttocks through a non-surgical buttock enhancement. This collagen-stimulating treatment offers a natural, gradual transformation with long-lasting results.
What to Expect During Your Treatment
You will meet with one of our expertly trained Injectors who specializes in facial aesthetics, anatomy, and facial proportions. We will assess your face and thoroughly discuss your concerns and aesthetic goals to develop a customized treatment plan.
Your treatment will take on average about 1 hour. This will consist of ‘before’ photos to document your progress – these are HIPAA compliant – and just for you and your provider to better appreciate your amazing results! Then, a topical numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area for about 15 minutes.
The actual injections of Sculptra may only take 10–20 minutes on average. Bruising and swelling are common for the first 2–5 days and settle on average around 2 weeks. Sculptra has unique post-care that requires massaging the treatment area for 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for 5 days after the treatment.
These results can last over 2 years, but it is recommended to have maintenance treatments, as determined by your provider, to maintain your natural-looking results and most dramatically slow the aging process.
Post Sculptra Treatment
After your Sculptra treatment, it's important to follow specific aftercare guidelines to ensure optimal results and minimize side effects. Some swelling, tenderness, redness, and bruising at the injection sites are common and typically resolve within a few days to two weeks.
One of the most essential parts of Sculptra aftercare is the “5-5-5 Rule”: massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. This helps evenly distribute the product and supports the collagen-building process beneath the skin.
Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat (such as saunas or hot tubs), and alcohol for the first 24 hours post-treatment. These activities can increase swelling or bruising. Applying a cold compress intermittently during the first 24 hours can help reduce swelling.
Keep in mind that Sculptra works gradually—results are not immediate. You’ll begin to notice improvements in volume, firmness, and skin quality over the course of several weeks as new collagen forms. For the best outcome, your provider may recommend a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart, along with routine maintenance appointments.
