What is IPL Photofacial?

Laser Limelight IPL is a non-invasive treatment that uses advanced Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology to correct skin discoloration caused by aging, sun exposure, and conditions like rosacea. Whether you’re battling brown spots, redness, broken capillaries, or uneven skin texture, Limelight helps reveal clearer, brighter skin by stimulating your body’s natural healing process.

Limelight by Cutera delivers broad-spectrum light deep into the skin, triggering collagen and elastin production. This promotes healthy cell regeneration, reduces pigmentation, shrinks pores, and softens the look of fine lines—giving you that fresh, smooth, youthful glow.

With minimal downtime and few side effects, this treatment is ideal for those seeking a safe and gentle skin rejuvenation option.

Common Treatment Areas:

  • Face

  • Neck

  • Décolleté

  • Arms

  • Hands

  • Shoulders

  • Other sun-damaged areas

Results improve with each session, and most patients see best results after a series of three or more treatments. A customized treatment plan will be created during your consultation with one of our certified providers.

What to Expect During Your Treatment

One of our expertly trained aestheticians administers the treatment through a handpiece. Additionally, our Limelight device includes a built-in cooling system for added comfort. A gel is applied to your skin prior to treatment. The device is then calibrated to deliver the appropriate light settings based on the patient’s skin tone and the specific target, or chromophore (e.g., pigmented lesions, photodamage, acne, or blood vessels).

Immediately following treatment, brown spots will begin to darken, and your skin may appear slightly red and mildly swollen. Makeup can be applied to cover the redness. Over the next few weeks, the darkened spots will gradually flake off and fade, revealing a smoother, more even complexion. Some clients may experience swelling for a few days after treatment. The sensation during the procedure is often described as similar to a light rubber band snap against the skin, but it is temporary. Typically, patients undergo a series of three treatments spaced four weeks apart.

Post Laser IPL Photofacial Treatment

After your Limelight IPL treatment, it’s normal to experience mild redness, warmth, and slight swelling in the treated areas—similar to a mild sunburn. These effects typically resolve within a few hours to a couple of days. Brown spots will begin to darken immediately and may appear more pronounced before they gradually flake off over the next 7–14 days, revealing clearer, more even-toned skin beneath.

Makeup can be applied shortly after treatment to cover any redness if desired. We recommend using gentle, non-irritating skincare products and avoiding exfoliants, retinoids, or harsh ingredients for at least 3–5 days post-treatment.

To protect your results, it’s essential to avoid direct sun exposure and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher daily. Tanning—both natural and artificial—should be strictly avoided, as UV exposure can compromise results and increase the risk of pigmentation changes.

For best outcomes, a series of treatments spaced about four weeks apart is recommended, with improvements continuing to develop after each session. Always follow the specific post-care instructions provided by your provider for optimal healing and results.
