Prioritizing Self-Care Practices

Being a full-time business owner, educator, entrepreneur, and momma calls for many late nights, long hours, and chaos. However, prioritizing self-care and time for rest and recovery are essential for overall health and wellness. It is no big surprise that when stress takes over, it can make it more difficult to make healthy nutrition choices, exercise, get 8 hours of sleep and prioritize self-care activities. Anna and Hli are both go-getters and enjoy working together, taking on new adventures, and going above and beyond to care for our patients! This also means holding each other accountable to taking care of ourselves so we can better care for our patients.

Daily Rituals for Self-Care

  • Ensure to get 7-8 hours of sleep. Not only is sleep/rest essential for daily living, but it actually can help with stress reduction and skin health.

  • Taking in adequate nutrition and diet high in antioxidants; Eating a whole food diet filled with fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, omega-3 fatty acids and SMASH fish (Salmon, mackerel, anchovies, sardines & Herring) can help reduce inflammation in the body. Eating a diet high in saturated fats, sugar and simple carbohydrates can contribute to internal inflammation and external inflammatory skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, and other skin manifestations.

  • Exercise: daily exercise, whether it be walking outdoors, hiking, yoga, Pilates, biking, or weight training, can improve blood flow, reduce cardiovascular disease risk, stabilize blood glucose levels, and give your skin a youthful glow.

  • Mindfulness/ Stress Reduction: Incorporating daily breathing exercises, time in nature, daily yoga, and journaling can all help keep stress levels low and easier to manage.

  • Supplementation: Every individual has his/her own unique nutrition/supplement needs. Certain individuals have trouble absorbing certain minerals/vitamins due to genetics or health conditions. Trying to obtain adequate minerals/vitamins through one’s diet is most important, but sometimes a little supplementation is necessary. Vitamin D, Collagen, and omega-3 fatty acids are essential supportive supplements that can help fight inflammation, aid in mood regulation, and aid in overall skin and body health.
